What is Adult social care?

Adult social care is the personal support and care provided to people over the age of 18 with physical or learning disabilities, or physical or mental illnesses. Care needs vary drastically and are individual to the person. A person’s needs are often multiple and interrelated. Formal adult social care provided by local authorities is part of a complex system of support, which also includes informal support provided by family and friends or by voluntary services.
