Legal Manager - Maternity Cover

We are looking for a Legal Manager for a 12 month contract to join a busy team in our City Centre offices.

This role would be ideal for an early-to-mid career commercial / IT solicitor or a paralegal / legal executive with equivalent experience (whether in house or in private practice) and a good class of law degree.

What will you be doing?

  • Assisting the Group Legal Counsel in the provision of legal, commercial and contractual support to the companies within Servelec
  • Drafting and negotiation of substantial agreements for the delivery of software and ancillary services (including software support and hosting). In addition to managing the pure legal aspects of the contract, this would also include obtaining the appropriate input from operational colleagues in respect of the technical, project management, and service delivery schedules.
  • Drafting and negotiation of partnership agreements, licence distribution agreements, contract variations, licensing agreements and confidentiality agreements and providing advice to the relevant Project and Sales Managers on the application of terms and conditions of those contracts
  • Assisting Directors and Managers in risk assessment
  • Drafting the commercial sections of the responses to pre-qualification questionnaires and invitations to tender
  • Assisting in the commercial due diligence for any corporate acquisitions undertaken by the Group
  • Helping to ensure that contracting activities are carried out in accordance with legislation and the Group’s policies and procedures
  • Assisting the Group Legal Counsel in other legal and compliance matters that affect the Group’s companies


What will help you succeed in this role?

  • Excellent knowledge of key contract law principles
  • Proven experience of reviewing, negotiating and drafting a wide variety contractual terms is absolutely essential
  • Experience of IPR and software licensing would be preferable
  • Ability to get a quick and early grasp of the various operational and commercial risks faced by the various business across the Group and then manage these risks in the context of their respective commercial contracts
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to adapt and use his/her initiative within a group of companies that is growing significantly year-on-year
  • Excellent literacy skills (including computer literacy on Word, Excel and Outlook) and good attention to detail
  • Excellent knowledge of key contract law principles
  • Proven experience of reviewing, negotiating and drafting a wide variety contractual terms is absolutely essential
  • Experience of IPR and software licensing would be preferable
  • Strong law degree or equivalent
  • Qualified solicitor status is preferable but candidates with equivalent experience will be considered
