Infrastructure / Implementation Engineer

We are looking for an Infrastructure / Implementation Engineer to join our busy city centre team.

Servelec provide hosting solutions utilising Tier3+ data centres to other companies within the Servelec group and their clients. Servelec are looking for a talented individual to work with the infrastructure lead engineer and expected to assist with the design, purchase, install and configure the environments required to support a client installations in a highly available and resilient architecture.

Successful candidates should exhibit a good understanding of network architecture with and understanding of such technologies as NIC Teaming, Port Channels, Port Trunking, WAN/LAN/VLANs, Load Balancing and Access Control Lists. An awareness of underlying storage technologies such as SAS, iSCSI and Fibre Chanel solutions would be beneficial.

You will be required to install, configure and maintain physical and virtual servers to operate in a highly available environment utilising multiply redundant stacks, dual power supplies, Windows Failover Clusters, VMWare vSphere DRS clusters, VMWare NSX and multiple redundant paths via network and storage fabrics. Candidates should illustrate an awareness of techniques that can be used to support Disaster Recovery Environments utilising techniques such as Backup and Restore, Microsoft DFSR, Microsoft SQL Server Log Shipping, VMWare SRM, Database Mirroring and SAN level block replication.

What will help you succeed in this role?

A good understanding of server hardware installation and maintenance with previous exposure to HP or Dell servers both rack mounted and blade solutions.
A thorough understanding of the IPv4 protocol stack. Candidates should be conversant with IP addressing, subnet masks, super-netting/sub-netting/CIDR, DNS, IP Routing and have the capability to understand and diagnose issues. Experience with CISCO network switch or firewall principals and configuration would be useful but not essential as training can be provided. Any experience of connecting to the NHS N3 network would be beneficial.
Experience with virtualisation technologies, a focus on VMWare vSphere 5.1/5.5/6.0 would be ideal. Candidates will be able to demonstrate the ability to install, monitor and configure Hypervisors and Virtual Machines.
A good understanding of Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 is required with focus on the following areas;
Server installation and configuration.
Active Directory.
Group Policy.
Windows Failover Clustering.
Network Load Balancing.

You will have a good understanding of the following application server technologies;
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2
Microsoft IIS 7.0/7.5
Microsoft FTP or SSH servers
Any experience of Storage systems would be useful, specifically Dell Equalogic, Powervault and Compellent storage arrays and iSCSI or Fibre Channel storage fabrics.
Any experience with Veeam, VMWare SRM or VMWare NSX would be beneficial.
